The connector market has become one of the most diverse in the electronics industry. Despite this variety, most connectors use a traditional plug and socket arrangement, which may not be the perfect solution for all applications. For devices that require quick disconnection, an alternative solution must be found.

These applications are becoming more and more common. Wearable technology has become a familiar part of our lives, from the latest communications on the battlefield to the MedTech industry providing advanced healthcare devices for patients. In these situations, the cables must be able to detach quickly to avoid damage or injury.

In the industrial sector, robots are becoming increasingly sophisticated and versatile. Interchangeable tools allow them to perform a variety of different tasks, each requiring a quick connection to maximize efficiency.

Manufacturers must look beyond traditional pin and socket designs to develop versatile quick-release connectors. Spring-loaded contacts, often called pogo pins, have been used in the testing industry for many years. However, with the increasing interest in quick releases, they have found a new life.

EDAC’s new range of magnetic pogo connectors are specifically designed for quick connect applications. The range includes two alternative arrangements. The round design offers 2, 3 and 4 pin options arranged in a coaxial configuration. Attachment is done by strong magnets that maintain strong positive contact but still allow for quick release if necessary. They can also be quickly reconnected.
