The passively cooled buck-boost converter DCBB19c-120 from Elec-Con is a combined boost-buck converter in the ⅛ kW class with 19 V output voltage and an unusually wide input range of 8…45 V DC. Compared to conventional designs, the new development offers a decisive advantage: Smart switching behavior when the input voltage oscillates around the output voltage.
The DCBB19c-120 is digitally configurable and thus helps to reduce inventory, as only one hardware platform needs to be kept for a wide variety of applications. Thanks to its high efficiency of up to 97.5%, operation is guaranteed up to +55 °C ambient temperature without forced cooling and without derating.
The combined buck-boost converter of the diPSU series does not require galvanic isolation and is suitable for industrial use as a PoL converter that reliably keeps voltage fluctuations away from sensitive electronics such as IPCs, sensors or measuring devices, or to provide a stable 19 V supply from a wide variety of voltage sources.
The DCBB19c-120 is built around a powerful microcontroller and has independent output stages for buck and boost operation, which is why Elec-Con also calls it a “four-switch buck-boost converter”. The very compact DC/DC converter, measuring 79 x 44.5 x 20 mm, is roughly equivalent to half a “speed pack” and is mechanically and electrically compatible with all other Elec-Con converters. The advantage for users: If a pre-designed buck converter cannot guarantee the trouble-free operation of an IPC – for example due to occasional undervoltages – the system can be easily optimized with a diPSU buck-boost converter. Fastening and cable routing remain unchanged; a complex redesign is not necessary.
